Can you mix LED and ordinary garden lights?

Sort of is the answer.

The basic thing to understand is that LED lights need a constant voltage supply and are prone to fail if the voltage fluctuates much, so they need a specialist LED driver (constant voltage transformer). However, if you connect regular incandescent bulbs to an LED driver you can likewise damage the driver.

Some LEDs are designed to work with normal 12v systems and will be labelled as such, otherwise the way to “mix” the two systems is to install two separate transformers and cables and run each light fitting from the appropriate power supply.
